Festival Survival Kit
We love our music festivals in the UK, and events like T in the Park and Glastonbury attract thousands of people to them each year. Festival packing is not like going on a regular holiday, as the main considerations are portability and suitability for the possible weather conditions. For a newbie on the festival scene, the choice of what to pack can be very confusing. There are however a few pointers which can help make the choice clearer.
Accommodation
For the true festival experience, there is no alternative but to get under canvas in a tent. Some of the bigger festivals hire out tents, but most people prefer to take their own tents with them. Choose something compact and easy to pitch. Some tents are now available with zips which can be locked, and this makes them more secure for any items left inside. It is never a good idea to take valuables to a festival with you. For those who don’t fancy roughing it in a tent, book alternative accommodation nearby as soon as you buy your ticket, as beds in B&Bs and hotels around the venue get full very quickly.
Wellies
We’ve all seen the pictures of people struggling through the mud at Glastonbury, and a pair of willies is an absolute must have for festivals. Wellies don’t have to be boring though, and a great choice for the fashion-conscious festival goer are Hunter Carnaby Boa wellies. These boots are both a trendy and a practical choice. Carnaby Boa wellies are made by Hunter, the well-known brand which stands for quality, and will ensure the wearer stands out from the crowd with their innovative snakeskin design. For a real fashion statement, choose the Carnaby Boa wellies in gold, rather than the standard black boot.
Mobile Phone charger
Modern smartphones require charging every couple of days at a maximum, and while at a festival there are no power points to plug into. There are several wind up chargers on the market and other devices which will provide a short term battery to be used in emergencies. Mobiles are the best way of keeping in touch with friends if you get separated in the crowds.
Wet wipes and hand gel
Showers and toilet facilities aren’t the best at festivals and festival goers may have to go several days without a bath or a shower. One way round this problem is by taking a packet of baby wipes which can be used to clean the body and face, then be thrown away. Wet wipes can also double up as toilet roll when necessary. Hand gel is the best way to keep hands clean when hot running water is not an option.
Waterproofs
Getting wet is no fun, and with the British weather it’s easy to get soaked to the skin in minutes. Pack a lightweight plastic poncho which won’t take up much space in your bag or rucksack, and can be kept folded in a pocket until needed. Ponchos aren’t perhaps the most fashionable choice, but certainly a practical one.
