Reasons to Go to Your Professor's Office Hours

Every professor that you have has office hours. Most college students never take the time to ever go and actually talk to their professor during their hours. Even if you are in a big class and you have never talked to your professor before, going to their office hours is always a good idea. You may be wondering why going to office hours is so smart to do. There are a lot of reasons why and here are a few of them. Take these reasons into consideration and believe me, you will not regret it.
To network
One of the best reasons to go to your professor’s office hours is to network. Your professors most likely have a lot of real world experience. With that experience comes knowing people. If you talk to your professor in their office hours, you can hear about their professional stories and who they know. They will know a lot of truly great professionals and maybe they will help you when you need to get a job after graduation.
To make an impression
When a professor teaches a class of about 300 people, there is a really good chance that they will have no idea who you are. Going to their office hours will show your professor that you actually care about their class. This shows your professor that you actually want to get a good grade. Doing this will make a really great impression on your professor.
To discuss grades
If you have an issue or a question about your grade in the class, you should definitely go to your professor and talk to them about it. Showing you care is one of the best ways to get a good grade in a class. At the end of the semester, if you are bordering on two letter grades by 1% or less, your professor will be more likely to give you the higher letter grade if you have been in to see them during their office hours.
To clarify
Sometimes there are miscommunications with grades or papers or homework. If you do not understand a homework assignment or if you didn't get a topic in class, go to your professor’s office to clarify the topic. Don't be bashful about it. Go in and clarify the topic because if not, you will not do as well on the test or the paper as you would like.
To get face time
Like I said before, your professor probably will not know who you are when he or she has hundreds of students. Just go in to your professor’s office hours to get some face time. When they know and recognize your face, they will trust you and they might depend on you for things. It is always good to get to know your professors.
To get advice
Your professors have worked on different research projects and worked with real professionals. Feel free to go to their office hours any time and get advice from them. They are older and wiser than you and you should listen to what they have to say.
