Memorable Animal Encounters In Pattaya, Thailand

One of the things people come to Pattaya is to experience the city’s grandeur and being surrounded by local and Western expats. Pattaya has a lot of attractions to choose from. Most importantly, many of them are family friendly locations. Speaking of family friendly locations, there’s a handful of places you can take your children to. Several of these places have live animal encounters that allow you to take photographs of yourself with the animals. So, if you love animals and nature, head over to Pattaya and experience what wonders awaits you!
Nong Nooch Tropical Garden
By far one of the best places to go to when visiting Pattaya, Nong Nooch Tropical Garden is one of the best places to visit. Situated on the outskirts of the city, this beautifully managed tropical garden is the ideal place for families, tourists and of course, photographers a like. The garden is extremely spacious and contains a lot of things to see and do here. It’s mostly known for the amount of flowers scattered through the garden, bundled up together in nice, shapely bunches. Complementing the flowers are intricately constructed objects, made out entirely of clay pots. The clay pots, not glued together are carefully placed on top of one another to create beautiful masterpieces: Elephants, boats and even arches!

Not to be outshone by the flowers and nature, the garden has lots of animals for you to photograph and even touch. On display will be tigers, macaws, lizards and most notably known, an elephant show. Photographing the animals will cost you 100 Baht but you can quickly snap as many shots as you like with your preferred animal.
However, always keep in mind about allowing smaller children around tigers; although the big cat is on a short chain, it can still lash out with its claws. If you happen to spot a tiger ‘meowing’ a lot, it’s advisable to not go near it as it is stressed and wants space of its own. And recommended with all animals, refrain from using any forms of flash as it does hurt their eyes.
Nonetheless, a great place to visit if you want to experience a well preserved Thai botanical garden.
Elephant Village
The Elephant Village offers a fantastic encounter with Thailand’s national animal: The elephant. Situated a little ways a way from Pattaya itself, the village is filled with young and old elephants along with their handlers. At the Elephant Village, there’s the standard elephant show which you can watch a group of elephant performing lots of tricks, taught by their handlers.
Nonetheless, what distinguishes this location from the rest is you can go on a trekking tour with the elephants. Granted, the trekking tours are expensive but it is an unforgettable experience. The Elephant Village has 3 types of packages to choose from: Viewing the elephant show (650 Baht), one hour trekking tour (1200 Baht) and the ultimate package is a whopping 3 hour combination trekking package (2000 Baht). Depending on your budget, it’s recommended to go for the more suitable and affordable one hour trekking tour with your elephant.
This once in a life time experience will be extremely enjoyable for you and your children. Not only will you get to ride on the back of a majestic beast, the Thai elephant, you get to witness the local wildlife around the area too. And to top it all off, you get to ride ox carts on the way back to camp!
Khao Kheow Open Zoo
Finally, the last well-known destination on the list is the famous Khao Kheow Open Zoo. This is one of the largest zoos in Chonburi province. Encompassing over 2000 acres of land and forested area, the Khao Kheow Open Zoo is the ultimate topping to your Pattaya experience. Outside the entrance of the zoo, you can spot several open shops which sell a myriad of vegetables. Although quite costly, it’s good to pick up a couple long green beans, bananas, oranges and all sorts of fruit assortments.
The reason being, when you enter the zoo with your vehicle, you can drive at your own leisure without the intervention of a tour guide. The zoo is your playground, so to speak. You can get down from your vehicle and feed deer, giraffes or dropping fruits into the hippo’s mouths from bridges. Most of herbivores roam free and they allow you to pet them.
Other animals such as omnivores and most importantly, carnivores are behind tall fences for your safety.
