Here are five simple tips to help you dodge the Easter binge. Working easily with your diet, they’ll help to keep you on the straight and narrow this Easter. Follow these simple steps to a better you.
Easter can be one of the worst holidays for binge eating. Not only do we load ourselves up on carbs during a big family meal, but we’re also prone to eating more than our fair share of chocolates and sweets.
While it may be hard to ignore the temptations that Easter brings, there are things you can do to lessen the blow, or blow out. So whatever plans you have, whether it’s a quiet one at home, a meal out with the family or taking the kids on an Easter Bunny hunt, you’ll know that you can enjoy the holiday weekend, without having to worry. Here are five simple tips to keep you on the straight and narrow.
1: Drink lots of water. Yes, you’ve heard it a million times before, and that’s because it really does work. Drinking a glass of water before a big meal can help fill you up faster and stop you pigging out on all those delicious treats. It’s also a good idea to have a glass handy throughout the day, chances are you’ll probably consume too much salt as well, and keeping hydrated is a good way to help your body process unwanted fats and salts, leaving you feeling less bloated and with more energy.
2: Eat. Yep, sounds crazy but fasting the day after a binge can actually do you more harm than good. Try to cut out sugary foods and replace them with fruit and veggies instead, this will help your body re-adjust and get back into a healthier routine.
3: Eggs. Well, we all know Easter is all about the eggs, but try swapping the chocolate kind for the real kind. High in protein, they will help you feel fuller for longer and make you less inclined to binge, a good tip is to fill up on boiled eggs at breakfast time, making you less likely to over indulge at lunch.
4: Gentle Exercise. While the temptation is to follow any heavy meal with a good jog around the park, it’s a better idea to take things slowly. Try a post lunch family stroll, or head down to the park with the kids; just be gentle on yourself and easy back into things slowly.
5: Don’t be too hard on yourself. Don’t set out swearing to not touch a single egg or chocolate. While determination like this may make us feel virtuous, it can often lead to major binge later in the day. Instead, why not be kind to yourself by having a little something, that way you won’t feel left out or inclined to eat the lot later on, and you can relax and enjoy the day with the family.
With these 5 handy tips you’ll be able enjoy Easter without having to worry about after effects. Whatever your diet delivery, you’ll be able to sit back and relax over the holiday period, knowing that whatever the Easter Bunny decides to bring, you won’t be piling on the pounds.
