Are They Smarter Than You Think?

Ah, the life of a celebrity. Devoid of responsibility, surrounded by an entourage who take care of your every whim. There’s no need to think about anything for yourself. Simply go from chat show to chat show talking about how great you are, even if it appears to the rest of the world that you’re famous for precisely nothing.

But of course, even though there’s a hefty percentage like that, some celebrities are actually far brighter than you might think. With degrees from universities like the London School of Economics and even the mighty Oxford and Cambridge. So who exactly are these celebrities with brains?

Surely Not Mr. Bean?
Yep, that’s right. Before he was Johnny English, Mr. Bean and Blackadder, Mr. Rubberface himself, Rowan Atkinson was university educated. He studied electrical engineering at Newcastle University and then did a master’s in the same subject at Oxford. Despite playing the fool on screen, Atkinson is clearly one smart cookie.

The Bad Guy From Rocky IV Too?
That’s right. Dolph ‘Drago’ Lundgren is far from all brawn. Graduating from Sweden’s Royal Institute of Technology he then got a master’s degree in chemical engineering from The University of Sydney. He was then awarded a scholarship to the legendary MIT in the US but decided to take up acting instead. Frightening stuff.

Beat The Brain
Now this one might really shock you. Radio 1 DJ Judge Jules doesn’t have the legal moniker for nothing. He actually graduated with a 2:1 in Law at the London School of Economics. So he could have been in court rather than behind the decks.

Borat And Bruno
Controversial comedian and actor, Sacha Baron Cohen, like Rowan Atkinson, revels in playing the fool. But he’s anything but stupid. Behind all the characters and outrageous antics lies the brain of a man who graduated in history from Cambridge University. Perhaps there is a method to his madness after all.

Some People Are Too Perfect
Then there’s Natalie Portman. Who, not content with a major movie career and being ridiculously beautiful, also found time to study psychology at Harvard, one of the best universities in the world. When not being the most perfect person on the planet she also has time to speak French, Hebrew and Japanese fluently. It’s enough to make you sick isn’t it?
One thing we can learn from all this is that whatever career path you want to follow, whether it’s actor, comedian or musician, getting a degree is always a good start. With some of the best institutions in the world in the UK and top universities in London, what better place to graduate than right here?

Poppy Bramwell is a not a graduate from one of the top universities in London. But she does love all things celebrity. She writes a regular celeb-spotting blog from her London home, keeping everyone entertained on the goings on of the rich and famous.
